Journal of a Candle Maker — Before the Christmas Magic Begins
There’s a funny thing about Christmas when you’re a candle maker.
For most people, Christmas begins when the decorations come out, the tree goes up and the first Christmas songs start playing.
For me, it begins months earlier.
It begins with fragrance bottles spread across my workspace, trying to decide which scents deserve to return for another Christmas and which ones it might be time to say goodbye to. It’s testing jars, ordering packaging, counting stock, changing my mind, changing it back again and wondering whether I’ve made enough of one thing and far too much of another.
And somewhere amongst all of that, a Christmas collection slowly starts to become real.
This year I wanted the collection to feel a little more considered.
Rather than filling it with endless choices, I chose the fragrances and pieces that I felt really captured Christmas at Serendipity — the warmth of Night Before Christmas, the sweetness of Sticky Gingerbread House, the magic of Christmas Night, and those beautiful fresh Christmas scents that make a home feel as though the season has arrived.
